‘Heartbreaking’ fire at Mumbles Pier
Smoke billowed from the old Cinderella’s nightclub, at Mumbles, Pier, when the blaze broke out on Wednesday. Firefighters battled to stop the flames spreading and kept it contained to the old nightclub and chip shop. Pier owner Fred Bollom said: “It’s just heartbreaking. It was one of the oldest parts of the building, it’s older than the pier”.

Totland Bay Pier renovations making great progress
The pier, which was reduced to just its shell back in December 2021, now looks vibrant again with the new restaurant that will be opened at the end looking impressive already. Within the last 2 months, the structure has seen the exterior of the restaurant take shape with doors, windows, and roof added to the majority of the structure – however, an end date has not been named.

The first two returning Waverley river cruises from Southend Pier have been cancelled after a defect was discovered. A spokesman for Waverley Excursions said: “Unfortunately, during routine maintenance checks, a defect was discovered in Waverley’s starboard paddle wheel”.

The ghost was seen walking through the locked pier gate without triggering off the security light. Due to the sightings, the pier was the subject of an investigation by Bristol and UK Supernatural. Hythe’s Rock the Pier event a huge success!
Rock the Pier is staged by Hythe Pier Heritage Association (HPHA), which is carrying out repairs to the 700-yard jetty and its narrow-gauge electric railway. Now members of HPHA have announced that the celebration netted £8,500 – an increase of £1,000 on the sum raised last year.
