Ramsey Queen’s Pier awarded £50,000 lottery grant
The money was allocated from the government’s Dormant Assets Fund, which is managed by the Manx Lottery Trust. Mr McKenzie said the lottery grant had allowed the volunteer group to pay for the materials needed for bay four “completely”.He said additional funding for the next two bays was being raised through sponsorships of planks and stanchions on each part of the pier, along with donations from private and corporate supporters.

The piece of art, which illustrates a fisherman with the words ‘No more plaice’ written above him, was put on a building at Birnbeck Pier in Weston-super-Mare last week. The enigmatic street artist has not claimed it as his work. The arrival of the artwork however has been short-lived – and just days later it has disappeared. It is not known whether the painting has been stolen or removed by its creator.

Penarth Pier part of seafront refurbishment
The seafront at Penarth is set to get a major £200,000 refurbishment with the pier and pavilion repainted. The roads will also be resurfaced as part of the refurbishment plans by the Vale of Glamorgan council. The works include painting railings, benches, bollards, lighting columns, decking around the pavilion, the Pier Head Hut, and public toilets.

The 33-metre wheel is being dismantled and taken to Swansea to honour plans made before it was introduced at the Clacton seaside this summer. The wheel will form part of the Swansea Winter Wonderland experience before returning to Clacton for the February half term. ‘Alien brains’ found under Blackpool North Pier!
Chairman of the Lancashire Marine Conservation Society, Dr Barry Kaye, said: “These are Honeycomb worm reefs. Larger mounds, or ‘reefs’, of this sort are common around Morecambe Bay, and one of the type species for that area. They do not form such large reefs in many other places. The reefs come and go when local conditions favour the worm”.

Developer Alan Waldron has already secured planning for 50 apartments and restaurants at the location, sited next to the historic pier. He has since applied to add four more apartments, with that application – approved by Conwy planners – facing a call-in request to Welsh Government planning inspectors. It is due to be auctioned online on November 9, with a guide price of £2.8m.
