Clacton Pier is on a roll!
Clacton Pier’s new big wheel is now being installed on the forecourt of the seaside attraction after bosses were given the go-ahead by Tendring Council. The decision was made towards the end of last week after the authority’s planning department concluded the structure would benefit tourism.

Scarborough’s West Pier to benefit from multi-million-pound regeneration?
A £6.5 million regeneration scheme for Scarborough’s West Pier has been launched which the borough council hopes will breathe new life into the heart of the town’s iconic South Bay. The aim of the scheme is to secure a “prosperous working harbour, champion fishing heritage and local seafood, and create a must-visit destination for hospitality, leisure and events,” the council claims, while also maintaining the town’s fishing heritage.

In Time, Sean Bean can be seen walking down the 1,000-metre-long pier before entering the stunning pavilion, which is surrounded by walls of panelled glass providing an almost 360-degree view of the coast. New cafe to open at Clevedon Pier
A new cafe serving fish and chips is to open on Clevedon Pier – as the historic landmark starts to recover from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The Glass Box cafe will be run by Clevedon Pier and Heritage Trust, which operates the landmark, and is due to open in the middle of July. The cafe will offer fish and chips and other savoury treats and drinks and complements the cafe in the pagoda at the end of the pier run by volunteers.

Brighton Pier Group buys Lightwater Valley theme park
Brighton Pier Group said it believed the “extensive space” at Lightwater Valley provided a “long-term growth opportunity” for the group to develop and expand the park. “I believe that we can develop Lightwater Valley into the premier amusement destination across Yorkshire and the surrounding areas,” said chief executive officer Anne Ackord.

Clacton celebrates anniversary with ‘Clacton 150 Flypast’
The Red Arrows will perform a display to celebrate a seaside town’s 150th anniversary. The RAF aerobatic team will be part of Clacton-on-Sea’s airshow at the end of August. The year 1871 is seen as the Essex resort’s founding year as that was when the pier was built. The Clacton Airshow takes place on 26 and 27 August and also includes displays from a Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane.

Weston’s ‘third pier’ opens!
After the Seaquarium closed two years ago it has stood empty and unloved on the sands – until now. The building, which sits on stilts on the seafront site, has seen an incredible transformation into ‘all day dining’ venue the Revo Kitchen – thanks to the town’s Michael family. Kerry Michael, who also owns the town’s Grand Pier, signed a deal with North Somerset Council to take over the seafront tourist attraction last year and has pumped nearly £1.7 million into its transformation.

Plans for new pavilion cafe with rooftop terrace for Southend Pier
A NEW pavilion café is set to be built on Southend Pier providing refreshments with sweeping sea views to thousands of visitors. Southend Council’s department of culture and tourism has commissioned plans for a new building near the pier entrance to provide “light refreshments with a fun element”. The building will have a west-facing roof terrace accessible to the public with steps that will double up as seating with views towards Leigh and Canvey.

Plans to totally renovate the redundant tramway pier in Ryde have been unveiled as part of the £96.5 million Ryde Gateway Project. Wightlink has submitted plans to the Isle of Wight Council to develop the tramway pier into a dedicated cycle and pedestrian walkway.

Dorset Belle cruises return to Bournemouth Pier
The Dorset Belle pleasure cruise has returned to Bournemouth pier for the first time since 2012. The 47-year-old boat, which was moved to Cardiff Bay nine years ago, is now offering day trips around the bay. Owner Dave Wilcock told the Daily Echo: “The main thing is that the Dorset Belle has been returned to Bournemouth. “My boat was designed to work off Bournemouth pier, so that’s the big thing, we can get the boat returned back into its original colours.”

Iran begins its ambitious seaside pier construction plans
A new recreational pier will be constructed near the city of Noshahr, which is bounded by the Caspian Sea in northern Mazandaran province. Some 100 billion rials ($2.4 million at the official exchange rate of 42,000 rials per dollar) have been allocated to the project, which is to be carried out by the private sector, Noshahr’s tourism chief has announced.

Hythe Pier ferry saved by community fundraising
More than £60,000 has been raised to rescue Hythe Ferry, which links the Waterside and Southampton. The ferry stopped running in December when the owners confirmed it could not afford to resume crossings. More than £37,500 was raised by the community through a crowdfunded. In addition, Southampton City Council, New Forest District Council and Hampshire County Council joined forces to donate a grant of £22,500.

Payment error at Brighton Palace Pier
Hundreds of visitors to Brighton Palace Pier have been charged more than £2,000 for tickets to fairground rides due to a payment error. Owners of the East Sussex attraction apologised and said the “serious error” was the result of an issue with payment processing firm Worldpay. The date had been mistakenly entered as the transaction amount, it said.

Southend Pier’s new trains to be unveiled this month!
Southend Council is set to take delivery of the new electric trains, with a heritage green and cream design, on July 19. Training and installation mean the official launch date on Southend’s iconic pleasure pier is likely to be at least 10 days later. However, it has been revealed the former trains will remain part of Southend Pier, with carriages installed on the pier as seating to shelter residents from the weather.

A third new ride is being introduced at Clacton Pier as part of its 150th birthday celebrations. The Race-O-Rama will be arriving at the pier this week and is expected to be available this weekend. It follows hot on the heels of the Clacton Pier Wheel Experience and the Looping Star Roller Coaster which will be up and running by the end of July.
