Helensburgh Pier achieves listed status
Helensbugh’s pier has been designated as a category C listed structure by Historic Environment Scotland (HES). The pier, which has been closed to all marine traffic since last October on safety grounds, was found to meet the criteria for listing “mainly for its rarity as a largely surviving 19th century stone and timber former steamer pier, and for its historical relationship with the town and Henry Bell”.

Plans for restored West Pier kiosk revealed
The West Pier Trust has asked Brighton and Hove City Council for permission to site the kiosk, which it says it the world’s oldest surviving pleasure pier building, to the east of the i360 at beach level. The trust will use original cast iron fixings from about one and a half kiosks which are in storage in Horsham after being dismantled in 1996.
